Discipleship Community is a commitment to the local body.
At Cornerstone, we believe that committing and belonging to a local church is a vital part of following Jesus. Many churches formalize this through a process called membership. At Cornerstone, we use the term Discipleship Community to describe this commitment.
Every Christian is already a member of the universal Church—the body of Christ spanning every place and time. We do not want to confuse that glorious reality with the specific commitment of belonging to a local congregation.
Discipleship Community is a biblically based way for believers at Cornerstone to commit themselves to the local church, and the local church to them. It does not establish voting membership. Instead, it expresses our shared desire to follow Christ together through worship, fellowship, discipleship, service, accountability, and spiritual care.
