Go Easy
bycccriverton

Why are we often so quick to judge, criticize, resent, and hold grudges against the very people God has called us to love?

In this powerful sermon, “Go Easy,” we explore the transforming power of God's grace and the biblical call to love others as Christ has loved us.

The gospel reminds us that we are not naturally inclined to love, submit to, or seek God. We are born into a world marked by sin and spiritual death, completely dependent on the grace of God to awaken our hearts and bring us from death to life. Whether God saves us early in life or rescues us after years of brokenness and rebellion, every believer has one story in common: we have been shown amazing grace.

But if we truly understand the depth of God's grace toward us, how should that change the way we treat other people?

This message confronts the reality of anger, bitterness, resentment, hatred, criticism, unforgiveness, and a harsh spirit. Through the warning of Cain and the teaching of 1 John, we are challenged to examine our hearts. The Bible takes hatred seriously, reminding us that genuine Christian faith should produce genuine love for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

God does not treat us as our sins deserve. Instead, He is patient, compassionate, merciful, forgiving, and abounding in love. And because we have freely received grace through Jesus Christ, we are called to extend grace to others.

Sometimes the most Christlike thing we can do is simply go easy on people.

That does not mean ignoring serious sin or refusing to speak hard truths. There is a time for correction, discipline, and loving confrontation. But even hard truth must ultimately be motivated by love and a genuine desire for another person's good. Are our words helping build others up—or tearing them down? Are we contributing to reconciliation and restoration—or division and destruction?

This sermon is a challenge to examine how we speak, think, and act toward our spouses, children, families, coworkers, neighbors, friends, enemies, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

God did not treat us as our sins deserve. Through Jesus Christ, He gave us mercy, forgiveness, life, and grace. The challenge is now before us: Will we extend that same grace to others?
