Mindful Worship, Part Two: Truth, Faith, and the Life of the Mind

What does it mean to love God with all your mind? In this second message in the Mindful Worship series, we continue exploring the importance of intellectual worship, spiritual formation, Christian discipleship, and the call for believers to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In a culture increasingly shaped by feelings, emotional reactions, social media, entertainment, cultural pressure, and the idea that truth is personal or relative, Christians are challenged to think carefully about what they believe and why they believe it. This sermon examines the danger of making life-changing decisions based solely on how we feel in the moment rather than on what God has revealed to be true.

The Christian life is not a call to abandon reason, intellect, knowledge, or careful thinking. Instead, God calls us to develop and sanctify the minds He has given us. Faith is not blind belief without evidence or justification. Biblical faith is grounded in the truth God has revealed through His Word and His world.

This message explores the relationship between truth, reality, knowledge, faith, reason, and action. Because God is perfectly knowledgeable and perfectly truthful, His revealed truth provides an anchor when our feelings are unreliable, our hearts condemn us, or the culture around us pressures us to redefine reality.

The sermon also challenges believers to pursue lifelong growth in wisdom and knowledge, to become a studying and learning people, and to use their God-given gifts to tell His story faithfully and beautifully. Whether through work, family, ministry, creativity, education, or ordinary daily responsibilities, every believer is called to live purposefully for the glory of God.

Key questions explored:

  • What does it mean to love God with all your mind?

  • Should Christians be afraid of reason, logic, philosophy, or intellectual development?

  • Is faith opposed to evidence and knowledge?

  • Can feelings always be trusted to tell us what is true?

  • What is the relationship between truth and reality?

  • How should Christians make decisions when their emotions are unreliable?

  • Why must believers grow in knowledge and wisdom?

  • How does a Christian worldview help us navigate culture?

  • What does it mean for Christ to be formed in us?

  • How can we use our gifts to tell God's story beautifully?

  • Why is the development of the life of the mind essential to Christian discipleship?

The challenge is simple but profound: Do not build your life on what you feel in a moment. Stand on what God has revealed to be true.

As our emotions rise and fall, God's truth remains an anchor. The more we seek to know God through His Word and His world, the more faithfully we can live, think, worship, and tell His story.

“The development of the life of the mind for the Christian begins and ends with the truth God reveals both in His Word and in His world.”
